Using a Tablet PC? Wanna write about it?

I’m really hoping that at least a few of the many (I hope) people who are reading this have some experience with Tablet PCs in the classroom and are willing to share. If you fit the bill and want to help write for this site, please email me.

    Isaac,

Sounds great! May we pass the word to our HP Technology for Teaching grant recipients? Are you looking for K-12 teachers or hied faculty?

I am the program manager for our worldwide higher education grants. We now have a community of over 200 campuses in 34 countries where Tablet PC projects are underway. If you’d like to learn what I’m learning from our higher education grant recipients, you can check out my blog at http://www.hp.com/go/hied-blog.

We also have hundreds of K-12 schools that received an HP Technology for Teaching grant in the U.S. and Canada, where teams of teachers are using Tablet PCs.

Information about the HP Technology for Teaching grant program is available at http://www.hp.com/go/hpteach.

    Jim–

Absolutely, it would be great if you passed the word along to your grant recipients. I’m looking for both K-12 and HiEd–what I really want is to have people from a variety of educational settings who are using Tablet PCs.

Oh, and if you’re feeling particularly philanthropic, I could use an HP50g calculator to add to my collection, but I suspect that’s not your division. ;)

[...] Jim Vanides (see this comment), a program manager for HP Corporate Philanthropy, has an interesting ed tech blog (you might also be interested in information about the HP Technology for Teaching grant program). Jim has posted about the same Dr. Cox that I mentioned last week: One example comes from an HP Technology for Teaching grant recipient team at Murray State University, in Murray, Kentucky (USA). Dr. Terry Derting (Bio Sciences) and Dr. Ricky Cox (Chemistry) have been using HP Tablet PCs since 2004, and were recently awarded an HP Technology for Teaching Leadership award to continue and expand their work. I am willing to help out with this. I did a short review (from a teacher’s perspective) of the Samsung Q1 last summer, and can send you a copy.

Also, I use a Gateway Convertible Tablet with a Data-Projector in my elementary classroom. We have access to a SMART Board 1 day a week, so that could be included too.

That would be great! Perspectives on tablet use at levels other than secondary (my level) would really help. Drop me an email ([email protected]) and we can work out details.
